Since its beginnings, Lost Farm has worked from the belief that ambitious contemporary art does not require a conventional institutional setting. Our curatorial approach combines artistic trust and risk-taking with sustained attention to place, inviting artists to work across disciplines and develop new projects through encounters with people, materials, histories and landscapes.

This methodology was tested during Lost Farm Festival 2025 and its public art programme, where site-specific commissions, performances and artist-led encounters created alternative ways of presenting contemporary art across Sjællands Odde. From its earliest programme, Lost Farm has sought to challenge conventional notions of public art through experimental work embedded within the peninsula's everyday and natural environments. The organisation's developing strategy continues this commitment to artist-led practice, participation and the peninsula as both an exhibition and artistic learning space.

Lost Farm is an artistic ecosystem of intertwinning programme that test different durations, scales that unfold across seasons and geographically dispersed sites while remaining connected.

This unconventional format is not a workaround for being rural or on the periphery. It is the point.

Rather than importing an urban institutional model to Sjællands Odde, Lost Farm asks what contemporary art can become when it is made from the particular conditions of this place. Artistic production, exhibition and mediation can overlap; a sauna can become a listening space, a harbour wall an artwork, a museum a radio station, a school a place of artistic research, and the journey between them part of experiencing the exhibition.

Rooted in community activism and artist-led experimentation, Lost Farm brings the relationships, local knowledge and curatorial experience necessary together to connect Sjællands Odde with ambitious Danish, Nordic and international artistic practices.
